Thai was recently given the honor to compete in the 2017 US Open. His automatic bid to the main draw was due to his outstanding performance in the 2017 NCAA singles tournament. Him and his opponent, Mischa Zverev (27) battled it out for 3 hours and 28 minutes in a thrilling first round matchup. He gave the world number 27 a run for his money by bringing the match to a fifth set tie-breaker. Unfortunately, he just fell short of the win. The final score of the match was  7-6(5), 4-6, 4-6, 7-5, 6-3. From all of us at Providence Plantation and the Charlotte area, we congratulate Thai on this opportunity and many more in the future.
